Q: Can the ICP courses be applied to the courses that are required prior to sitting for the licensing exam.

A: No. Even though some of the CA-ICP curriculum overlaps the information covered in the pre-licensing course, completing a certificated or degree program does not waive the 52-hour course requirement needed to sit for the State licensing exam.

To sit for the State licensing exam, a student must complete a 52-hour seminar specifically designed for the state licensing exam and administered by an approved training company. When the student has completed the course, the provider of the licensing exam registers the qualified student with the Dept of Insurance verifying s/he has successfully completed the pre-licensing course. The student then obtains a qualified sponsor (traditionally his/her employer) and then registers to take the exam with the Dept of Insurance.
